It's Official

After much debate, I have quietly been mulling a run for President of the United States. Little did I know it would take off like it has. It started on the east coast and has spread like wildfire. I am finally ready to share it with you all today. Here is a news story from Channel 3 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Welcome to our new blog!

First off -- Sorry that our blog was down for a few days. I seriously think that it somehow had to do with the summer heat. (So, if anyone thinks of a clever way to pin it on our climate, let me know.)

Secondly -- We want to welcome you to our new blog in the hopes that there wasn't a post in the old blog that you were particularly fond of; because it is history. Actually, it's even less available than history --it's simply gone.

Now, enjoy the new one. Check out our posts, leave a comment or two. We'll try to keep it interesting and informative --maybe even useful.

Ok, so you know us too well to believe that.

Facebook

When I got my new Blackberry it came with a program called Facebook. I ignored it for a while. I’ve never been a big Myspace fan, either, and Facebook seemed to be the same thing.
I noticed a friend of mine had his Facebook page in his email signature so I looked into it and got hooked. Now I have a Facebook page of my own. It has been fun connecting with people I went to high school and college with. I have emailed people I haven’t spoken to in twenty years or more.
I had an email exchange with Gina Germani, a friend from high school I haven’t seen since we graduated thirty years ago. We talked about where we are and what is happening in our lives, dogs and our futures. It was nice to reconnect like that.
I got hold of Jay Aguda, one of my “kids” from Delano. Jay is an incredible young man, and I am proud to have him call me “Pastor Godsey.” It was great to hear from him, and we promised to keep in touch.
I got in touch with my old buddy Gordon Houston who is now one of the big guns in the Assemblies of God. We caught up with each other over the phone and made plans to get together in the fall.
Not all of it was positive. I saw Bob Cave, an old friend of mine, dressed in a Chiefs jersey. Tears welled up in my eyes. How the mighty have fallen, indeed…
Facebook was like having a reunion of people in my life that I haven’t seen or heard from in years.
I am looking forward to a day when I get to get together with some other friends and family. It won’t be on Facebook, though.
No, that reunion is going to happen in heaven. The day will come when I will walk through the gates of heaven. I will be amazed by the sights and sounds, I am sure. But I will be blown away by the people I will see. My grandma, Helen Brewer, will probably be the first one to greet me. I can just see her impish grin. Her body no longer tormented by Alzheimer’s, her eyes clear and her mind as sharp as ever. My grandpa will be there, too. He will once again be that dynamic preacher I grew up admiring. His red hair nowhere near as fiery as the flame that burns in his heart. What stories Grandpa will be able to tell me about heaven! Knowing him, he will have found a place to garden, and will have all kinds of advice on how to get around. I can’t wait.
There are others. Scores of people I have known and lost through the years. I will see them, and it might surprise me that some of the are in heaven, not the other place! I know it will shock some of them that I made it! They’ll wonder if God lowered the standards when they weren’t looking!
In all seriousness, the sad thing is that I know people who have passed on that I will not see. You see, contrary to what some people want to believe, not everyone gets in to heaven. The Bible is pretty clear that heaven is open only to followers of Christ. Not church-goers, or people who said all the right things and lived other things, only Christ followers. They are the ones guaranteed heaven.
A Facebook page is easy to get, you just sign up on their webpage. A reunion in heaven is even easier, you just open your heart to Christ. It really is that simple.
Looking up more friends and making new ones… Jerry
